Denise Lamarche presenting Liam with his YCAA Certificate.

Liam is a 14 year old from BC and we are incredibly impressed by his video and all he has accomplished!

β€œIn everything I’ve down and continue to do, I’m most inspired by the people taking action that I’ve met along the way. All environmental issues are connected. Seeing how we can all integrate action into everything we do, wherever we go is what make changes possible in the world.”

As part of the submissions application we asked participants to answer these 3 questions in addition to their essay or video.

What future goals do you have around your environmental and climate work, and do you have any future projects in mind?

I am really passionate about problem solving, so my climate action and environmental goals are to continue taking action on climate issues, and looking for ways to be innovative about the solutions. Innovation to take action could be creating a new method or way of tackling a pollution problem, or social innovation that can help bring people together to take action. One future project is to show how taking action can be really creative, in fact, we need creative solutions to do things differently, and at a massive scale. Using STEAM to create environmental solutions and connect it to social change is part of my future projects, and I am looking forward to bringing people together to do it!

If you could share with us one message of hope for our planet, what would it be?

By reframing the problems we face, and then looking at them from a different angle or perspective, allows us to see solutions in new ways. So much has changed already, we just need to keep going. Taking action is the best way to tackle climate anxiety, and it is what makes change happen.

Who or what inspires you to work on climate change?

I am really inspired every time I join a beach clean-up. There is something so powerful about seeing a whole group of people working together for a cause, all ages and abilities. I am also so inspired when I see groundbreaking scientific research shedding new light on our current problems, opening up new ways of doing things to showing society what needs to be done. Using the Ocean Diagnostics microplastics toolkit was really eye opening, and an inspiring way to use innovation and data to hep create changes in policy.
